I am working on an ocean themed project and as I was doing so, I thought I'd create this little tutorial for you in case you want to add something like it to one of your future oceam theme projects. It's so easy, a kid could do it.

Supplies: This stone clay is as light as paper and when you’re finished with your star fish you’ll want to seal it.

I have posted a picture of steps 1 through 3 below:

Step one:

Roll out your clay and cut out a circle. I have used a Lindy’s Stamp Gang lid which is about one and one-half inch in diameter (really small). After you cut out your circle, use a small script stamp and stamp on top of the circle… this add texture.

Step two:

Use a knife to cut out each of the legs of the star fish (are they legs or arms? I don’t know).

Step Three:

Curl up the legs/arms at the very tips.

Paint and add gold embossing powder. I went a little crazy and added too much to this example, but I’ll know better next time.

You didn’t think I’d leave you without a picture of the final product did you? I was just going to provide you with steps 1 and 3 but then I just couldn’t leave it at that. Could I?

I think the hardest part about adding a bunch of stuff is knowing when to stop...I'm still trying to work on that. :) Here's a tip I normally follow: after adding in the large stuff, fill in the small gaps. In this case, I added glittter and micro beads to fill in the holes. I personally think the starfish is lost in the composition. The background paper got a little busy and the colors look too much like the starfish. I learned a lesson and will try not to repeat that one again. I didn't plan on making a little composition/page for the starfish but it was so cute, I wanted to create a home for it in this tutorial.

Thank you ladies, I'm glad the tut was well received. I really love this clay it as light as a feather. I made some little ballerina slippers on a past layout with the same clay and when it dried, it took paint really well. I've had that bag for over a year now and I just put it in a plastic baggie to keep it moist.

If you like this tut, I think those of you who purchased the Embellishment Add On for November, will appreciate the chipboard technique that I'm working on for next Sunday. Be prepared to "dress up your chippies" ladies.
